Country Justice: Teabagging Tider Could Use A Lesson In Class

“It’s awfully important to win with humility … I have tried to teach them to show class, to have pride, and to display character. I think football, winning games, takes care of itself if you do that.”  – Paul W. Bryant

Baton Rouge is not Disney. The town has a well-earned reputation for drunken debauchery, and anyone partying on Bourbon Street in the aftermath of Alabama’s BCS Championship victory likely saw all they wanted and more. Now anyone with morbid curiosity can see some of the worst of what happened courtesy of YouTube.

In case you haven’t already been made aware, a cell phone video was posted recently (and may have been taken down by now; we’re not linking or checking) showing the worst side of drunken groupthink.

In the afterglow of the Tide’s thumping of LSU, a crowd of crimson-clad revelers came upon an LSU fan who’d had one too many and passed out at a table in a Krystal restaurant. The crowd proceeded to have fun playing with the unconscious Tiger fan, culminating in one genius teabagging (go look it up if you don’t know the term and aren’t easily offended) the overserved fan.

I Bleed Crimson Red wrote today on the issue, with the right amount of disgust and righteous anger. However, calls for an arrest on assault charges is where we differ. The country is overly litigious as it is, and We the People have in too many cases abdicated our responsibilities as citizens to control ourselves, our homes and our streets. This isn’t a case of sexual assault, and the moron that committed this act shouldn’t be subject to reporting himself as a sexual offender for the rest of his life.

He is, however, an embarrassment to himself, his family and to the Alabama fanbase. And he needs to learn a little class.

We’re in no way advocating violence by anyone against this poor excuse for a man. But back in the old days, things like this had a way of taking care of themselves. People knew where the line was, and that if you crossed it, you were due for a correction.

Deadspin has started the ball rolling in outing the teabagger. If our video star were to find himself the object of such a correction, he might learn his lesson; and we have no problem with that.
