Alabama Football: 3 Reasons the Crimson Tide Won’t Repeat as BCS Champions – Bleacher Report bit.ly/zOYGpi

I’m not naïve enough to think that back-to-back National Championships are a sure thing. In fact, it will be an uphill battle for the Tide to repeat. However, the Bleacher Report listed Eddie Lacey and the fact that back-to-back BCS wins has never happened as two of the three reasons why Alabama won’t win the title next season again.
Are you serious?!
I will grant that losing key players to the NFL is a serious hindrance to another championship run. Those losses hurt, and though we have rising stars to take the place of those we’re losing, it takes time for players to develop. This is clearly the biggest barrier to repeating as champs. It’s the other two that don’t sit well with me.
You had three reasons to tell readers why Alabama won’t win again, and you wasted one on Eddie Lacey. Really? I think this reason could’ve been clumped together with the one that talks about players leaving for the NFL. Trent Richardson is a special back to be sure; but Eddie Lacey is not a severe drop off in talent. Lacey is a monster and coming off the bench last year he gained 631 yards on 84 carries, ranking him 11th in the SEC overall. Let’s not forget that he missed one game and saw limited action in two due an injury.
And the fact that something hasn’t been done before has had little effect on Alabama of late. Most recently, Alabama became the first team in college football to ever shut out their opponent in a BCS bowl game. Nick Saban is the only coach to win three BCS National Championships. He is also the first two-time recipient of the Bobby Bowden National Collegiate Coach of the Year Award.
There are always naysayers when it comes to Alabama football. People said we couldn’t beat LSU after losing to them once. People challenged our kicker, saying that he could never be relied on to help us win the National Championship game. They said Saban couldn’t turn the program around, we couldn’t beat Texas, and that Mark Ingram wouldn’t be a Heisman winner. If you’ll recall, all of those things happened.
I’m not saying Alabama is a lock to repeat, but telling the players, coaches and fans it can’t happen because it just isn’t done isn’t a reason – it’s a challenge. Also, while no team has won a BCS national championship back-to-back, Alabama was selected by multiple polls as national champions in 1925 and 1926, and 1978 and 1979. So, back off, Bleacher Report; things that have never been done can always be done, especially by the University of Alabama.
