Are You Serious? Delusional Auburn Fans Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

Silly Auburn, seasons that end in an 8-5 record aren’t exactly what I would call rewarding, especially after a national championship win.  I get it.  You aren’t the first team to plummet far from the top and for many Auburn fans, an eight-win season was a welcomed surprise.  I strongly encourage you all to read the article mentioned in this Tweet, “Retrospective on Regression.”  It’s amazing and by far the most heartwarming moment in this fantastic piece is the line that states, “In 2011, Auburn football had a more rewarding season than the LSU Tigers or Alabama…”

Are you serious?!

I love that this article starts off defending the notion that Auburn had a more rewarding season, despite the records and major success of both teams this year.  It’s hilarious that the author knows the primary argument and puts it right up front to essentially cause him to lose his own debate within the first couple of sentences.

This whole argument is based on the idea that Auburn exceeded expectations, therefore making their season better.  Auburn was predicted to finish 5th in the SEC West and some “Bammers” predicted they wouldn’t even get a bowl game.  Well, all the cows in south Alabama couldn’t stop Auburn from gaining a coveted fourth place spot in the SEC West (thank God for Mississippi… am I right, Auburn?) and tearing it up in the Chick-Fil-A bowl.

The article also touted Auburn’s “culture of excellence” and amazing present and former coaching staff.  In fact, he states that Auburn has more former head coaches in Division 1 than any other school.  Yes, Terry  Bowden coaching Akron is an impressive fact for Auburn that clearly means their 2011 season, coached by Gene Chizik, is more rewarding than LSU’s and Alabama’s.

Despite the unfortunate claims this article makes and the highly annoying way the author kept referring to Alabama as “UAT,” I can respect his statement of commitment to his school: “I like Auburn at 8-5 just as much as I like them at 14-0.  We should all feel this way about all things Auburn.”

While I appreciate his dedication in good times and bad, this heart and “poetry” that he refers to isn’t unique to Auburn and doesn’t give you a “moral victory” in all your losses or a “moral national championship” because you guys have a creed down there.

I’d like to point out how rewarding the 2000 season was for Alabama when we went 3-8.  Hey, I know we lost five in a row but you know what, that was a tough Central Florida team and I even ventured to wear my Alabama shirt the next day to show that I still supported the team.  There were moral victories all over the place that season.  We exceeded expectations in the opposite direction.  Looking back, I’m proud that Alabama was the first team from a BCS conference to lose to Central Florida.  What an amazing lesson to learn.

This article was about the most dedicated pep talk I’ve ever seen.  I can see an Auburn fan reaching this conclusion and holding their heads high.  I think all you Tigers should go down to Toomer’s immediately and celebrate the rewarding 2011 season.
