Alabama’s attempt to grab a share of its third consecutive SEC softball title fell short today against the Florida Gators.
The No. 3-ranked Crimson Tide fell to the No. 7 Florida Gators by a final of 4-1 today at Rhoads Stadium, in the opening game of their weekend series. Alabama fell to 45-6 on the year overall, and 21-5 in the SEC. Florida meanwhile improves to 44-8 overall, and is now deadlocked with the Tide at 21-5 in the SEC.
Florida pitcher Hannah Rogers held the Tide to one run on three hits, and struck out seven.
Jackie Traina gave up four runs, three earned on six hits. She struck out nine.
Alabama and Florida are tied for the SEC lead with two games to play. This makes tomorrow’s game a must-win for the Tide. The Tide has now lost five straight to the Gators.
The teams face off again tomorrow at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
