Alabama softball is now a step closer to its fourth Women’s College World Series appearance in five years after defeating the Michigan Wolverines Thursday night by a count of 4-1.
SEC Pitcher of the Year Jackie Traina recorded her third consecutive two-hitter to improve to 36-2 on the season. Overall the Crimson Tide improved to 54-7 on the season, while the Wolverines fell to 42-16.
Traina had ten strikeouts on the game, and her total of 311 puts her in fifth place in Alabama softball history. The pitcher has struck out ten in all three of her NCAA postseason starts.
“Overall, I was very pleased with the win,” Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. “It’s nice to get the first one in a two-out-of-three.
Alabama has to get a second win against Michigan to advance to the WCWS. Their first chance comes today at 3:30. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Game three, if necessary, will be broadcast at 6:00 on ESPN.
