The Alabama Crimson Tide remain on top of the Fansided Top 25 poll, released Monday morning, and the fact that they are an overwhelming No. 1 says a lot about the nature of the Crimson Tide’s dominance.
The poll is compiled from the ballots of the editors of the Fansided network’s NCAA sites. Each editor, along with their team of writers, focuses primarily on one team, and that team’s conference opponents. Given that focus, there is some regional bias built into the poll. Unlike the BCS, in which any human error or bias is balanced by the use of computer formulas, the Fansided poll takes full advantage of the human element.
West Coast writers were clearly impressed with Oregon’s performance against lowly Colorado this past Saturday, and awarded the Ducks three first-place votes. Overall, however, Oregon sits in third place, while the Tide dominated the balloting.
Kansas State continues to occupy the second spot, while Notre Dame is comfortably in fourth place. LSU, Alabama’s next opponent, sits at No. 5.
While a win Saturday by the Tigers will shake up the polls completely, another Crimson Tide victory may do little to shake up this poll. Oregon and Alabama will likely continue to split first-place votes until and unless the two meet in the BCS Championship game.
