The Baylor Bears took down the No. 1-ranked Kansas State Wildcats Saturday night while Stanford defeated Oregon in overtime. The shocking night of college football upsets may have brought the Alabama Crimson Tide closer to backing into the BCS National Championship game for a second straight season.
Blown out by unranked Baylor 52-24, Kansas State will now drop in the polls, as will the Oregon Ducks, who went down to the Cardinal 17-14 in overtime. The Crimson Tide’s close loss to Texas A&M looks better as the Aggies and freshman sensation Johnny Manziel continues to impress.
Undefeated Notre Dame will be the new No. 1 team in college football, and it is very possible the Crimson Tide will be ranked No. 2 on Sunday, after defeating Western Carolina 49-0. Alabama still must beat Auburn to get into the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, where they would play the Georgia Bulldogs. Running the table from here out could put Alabama in the BCS title game in Miami.
For Alabama fans this Saturday is shades of last season, when several ranked teams lost in the waning days of the season to put the Crimson Tide back in the championship game, where they avenged their only loss of the season, defeating LSU 21-0 and winning their 14th national championship.
