Ah, the New Orleans Bowl. It’s the Sugar Bowl’s drunk Cajun cousin who reads on a fourth grade level. Several of the BCS bowls have created these secondary “baby bowls” to be played in their stadiums early in the bowl season. Bowl executives aren’t greedy; how are grown men, who work basically one week a year, supposed to live with only one company Mercedes?
East Carolina vs. Louisiana-Lafayette is going to be a slugfest between two powerful defenses. HAHAHAHA JUST KIDDING! East Carolina’s defense is like Bigfoot: there are rumors of it, but no one has actually seen it. Meanwhile, Louisiana-Lafayette’s defense has struggled, allowing an average of 27 points a game against their frighteningly deep Sun Belt schedule.
This is what makes college football great though. LA-Lafayette almost beat No. 6 Florida, then the very next week almost lost to Western Kentucky. What LA-Lafayette team is going to show up today? I have no idea, and I love it.
East Carolina has been riding high after being invited to a BCS conference. But that conference was the Big East, whose life expectancy is probably shorter than that of Lou Holtz.
This one will probably be a shootout to the end, and I can’t wait.
