Alabama Crimson Tide freshman wide receiver Amari Cooper has been named to the 2012 Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team.
Cooper is the only Crimson Tide player named to the 30-man roster, which is comprised of freshman from all 11 Football Bowl Subdivision Conferences and Notre Dame represented.
The 6-foot-1, 198-pound receiver out of Miami, Florida became a favorite target of Tide quarterback AJ McCarron this season, catching balls for 895 receiving yards on the year, and averaging 17 yards per catch. He has nine touchdowns on the season. Cooper’s 45-yard touchdown catch against Georgia in the SEC Championship game helped seal a win for the Crimson Tide and paved a path to the BCS National Championship game.
Cooper will be battling another member of the FWAA Freshman All-America team tonight, which he lines up across the field from Notre Dame defensive back KeiVarae Russell.
