Tide Fans Celebrate Champions and Anticipate Titles in Other Sports

Football season is over and another BCS title is in the record books, but being a Tide fan is a commitment all year long. The Tide celebrated the BCS championship in Tuscaloosa over the weekend and fans showed up to support our National Champions.  After football season, fans often turn to recruiting and spring camp to feed their hunger for Alabama news.  There is more than signing day and A-Day to look forward to in the coming months. Here’s five Capstone related stories that are in the news right now:

Alabama Gymnastics Reach #5

Bear Bryant won six titles at Alabama. Sarah Patterson has won six NCAA championships as well and has potential to add even more. The Tide sits at No. 5 currently, with matches against all of the top three later in the season. As Coach Bryant once said “we’ve got ;em where we want ‘em.”

Alabama Hockey vs Ole Miss in Home Finale

The Frozen Tide, as they are called, are getting good crowds in Pelham. If you have not attended a game, this weekend is your last opportunity of the regular season. Alabama Hockey is a club sport and is funded solely by donors and ticket sales. Go support your school and watch some great Hockey action. The Frozen Tide are poised for a potential playoff bid.

Mike Shula to be Offensive Coordinator for Cam Newton

Mike Shula has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, making him Cam Newton’s play caller. He has had success as a QB coach in the NFL and served as OC for Tampa Bay in the Dilfer years — reaching the playoffs twice in his tenure.  Tide fans wish Coach Shula much success in the NFL, even if he is working with Cam.

Alabama Basketball faces defending champs

Alabama Basketball (11-6) has had a tumultuous season, so far, but is positioned in striking distance in the SEC race. The Tide is currently tied for third in the conference (SEC basketball does not break into divisions) with Kentucky. Both teams have a 3-1 conference record. The teams meet tonight at 8PM at Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama Softball Ready for a Repeat

Alabama softball began practices last week in preparation for a Feb. 8 tournament to launch the 2013 season and a bid for a second straight national title. Alabama teams won four national titles last year (women’s golf, gymnastics, softball and football). Football has already repeated. Can softball add to the total?
