Alabama Football: Tide Players In The NFL

Greg McElroy: Stay or Go?

I think that unless the Jets draft a quarterback, their best bet for 2013 might be to round up as many cheap adequate veterans as they can and hope they hit the lottery by hoping one has a career year. This makes me inclined to say the Jets should move on from McElroy, but if they need a body and think they can develop him into the kind of backup who can help a team stay afloat over a limited stretch like he did against the Cardinals, I would not be terribly upset.

Ballard, Cody, Brock among MGCCC alums in NFL playoffs

Three former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs made the NFL playoffs, and two will remain in action this weekend. Former Bulldog Tramaine Brock and the San Francisco 49ers await Green Bay in this weekend’s NFC divisional playoffs. Two former Bulldogs squared off last Sunday as Indianapolis Colts running back Vick Ballard competed against Baltimore Ravens nose guard Terrence Cody in the AFC wild-card round.

Foley’s Julio Jones elevated into starting lineup in today’s Pro Bowl

Jones was one of the two reserve wide receivers. But because the NFC starters, Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions and Brandon Marshall of the Chicago Bears, withdrew from the game, Jones and Victor Cruz of the New York Giants were elevated to the starting positions.

SEC players dominate Super Bowl rosters

The biggest SEC contributor will likely be a rookie who is one year removed from a BCS Championship. Courtney Upshaw, the fast outside linebacker who was the star of Nick Saban’s defense a year ago is one of a crop of intimidating linebackers for the Ravens. Lining up beside Ray Lewis, Upshaw has accounted for 60 tackles this season, and could have one of his biggest games in the Super Bowl given Colin Kaepernick’s ability to scramble and extend plays. Nobody understand the spread option like an SEC linebacker who saw it week-in and week-out just one short year ago.

Trent Richardson will like having Norv Turner as Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator

“I got a chance to see Trent first hand. He made an amazing, explosive run against us in October. It was a rainy day, and he’s an impressive young player,” said Turner. “I’ve been fortunate through most of my [coaching] stops to be with outstanding, great running backs, guys who have characteristics like Trent.”

I’d obviously love to see GMac succeed. But if it ever happens, I doubt it’ll be in NY. They’ve got less WR talent than most top 25 CFB teams.
