The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team, preseason No. 1 and a trendy pick to win the SEC, has been honored with three players on the preseason All-SEC team. Coaches from around the league chose to honor Kayla Braud, Jackie Traina and Kaila Hunt from the 2013 Crimson Tide.
Senior Kayla Braud has been Alabama’s lead-off hitter since she joined the team as a freshman. She has earned All-SEC honors every season she has played at the Capstone. She is within striking distance of school records for batting average and stolen bases.
Where Braud is a slap hitter who earns as many infield hits by herself as many teams, Kaila Hunt is the polar opposite. She is the definition of a power hitter. Hunt hammered 21 home runs last season to lead the SEC. Like Braud, Hunt will be trying to set school records but in this case will be shooting for home runs and RBI.
Jackie Traina was the catalyst behind Alabama’s national championship run last year. Traina, a junior, posted 42 wins and over 300 strikeouts during the regular season. She followed a strong regular season by being named the NCAA tournament’s most outstanding player after she outlasted Oklahoma All-American Keilani Ricketts in the title clinching series.
All three of these young ladies will be integral to any chance Alabama has of repeating as national champions. The season opens up on February 8th.
