Arlington Height’s A’Shawn Robinson is possibly one of Nick Saban’s biggest recruiting coups at the Capstone. Saban was able to pull a commitment from Robinson, a Texas football star that was committed to Texas for over a year, away from Mack Brown and the Longhorns. A feat like that is one of the few remaining white whales in the recruiting world and speaks to the exceptional reach and power of Alabama football.
On the gridiron, Robinson is a monster. He is a top 10 talent at defensive tackle, but due to his rare athleticism for a 300+ pounder, could end up playing on the offensive line.
If Alabama chooses to use him on the defensive line, he could easily grow into a nose guard prospect but is already an ideal height/weight for one of the defensive end positions in the Tide’s 3-4.
If Alabama chooses to use him along the offensive line, he is a little too short for a tackle in today’s game, but could be an elite guard prospect. Robinson’s explosive first step would allow him to connect to his blocking assignment quickly on a running play, and his strength would serve him well fending off a pass rushing defensive tackle.
