Alabama Football Recruiting: Darius Paige Signs with Crimson Tide

Position: Defensive Tackle

Vitals: 6-foot-3, 285 Pounds

There are no high school highlights available for Darius Paige. The only video available is of him going through drills at a Florida State camp. Paige is most well known for his controversial transfer to Foley High school in Alabama, but no violations were said to have been committed in his recruitment.

Paige played defensive tackle in high school, but in Alabama’s 3-4 defense he will more than likely play the 5-technique in the base defense, and then he can shift inside to defensive tackle when Alabama is in their 4-3 alignment. Paige is quick for his size with an innate ability to change direction. He seems to have pretty good technique, and he has the frame to take on a few more pounds in the Crimson Tide’s strength and conditioning program.

When you rotate as many defensive lineman as Nick Saban does, it is always important to add depth at the position every year. Paige seems likely to take a redshirt in 2013, but he should be more than able to make a meaningful contribution in Tuscaloosa down the road.
