Alabama Softball wins UNI-Dome Classic, and Other Crimson Tide Women’s Sports News

The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team picked up their first tournament championship of the 2013 season on Sunday, defeating North Dakota State to win the UNI-Dome Classic.

Alabama had 12 hits, including four home runs in the 10-0 victory over the Bison, bringing their total over the weekend to nine homers. The win takes the Crimson Tide to 5-0 on the season.

Pitcher Jackie Traina moved to 3-0 this season, allowing four hits and striking out eight in the five-inning shutout. Senior Keima Davis had the big bat over the weekend, hitting a grand slam and two three-run homers over the course of the tournament.

Alabama now heads to the home portion of its schedule, taking on South Alabama on Tuesday at 3pm.

Basketball

Alabama’s women’s hoops took the Arkansas Razorbacks to triple overtime on Sunday before going down 91-80. The loss takes the Tide to 12-12 on the season and 2-9 in SEC play. Alabama next heads to Auburn to take on the Tigers on Feb. 17. The game will be televised on ESPN2, tipping off at 1:30pm Central.

Golf

The Crimson Tide women’s golf team is in second place after one round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, having shot a 5-over-par 293 in the opening round. The Tide are now in the second round of play at the Rio Mar Beach Resort, paired up with leader Arkansas, as well as TCU and Texas Tech.

Tennis

Ninth-ranked Alabama defeated the No. 11 Texas Longhorns at the ITA Team Indoor Championships on Sunday by a final of 4-3. The Tide improves to 6-1 on the season. The ladies head back home to Tuscaloosa to take on Washington on Friday, with the first serve taking place at 3pm Central.
