We’re still over five months away from kickoff to the college football season (shoot me), but the Alabama Crimson Tide’s kickoff time for their season opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies in Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game has been set. Toe will meet leather in the Georgia Dome at 4:30 p.m. CT.
The two-time defending BCS National Champions will open the season on August 31st in their third Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game in the last six years. The Crimson Tide opened their season at the Georgia Dome in 2008 with a 34-10 win over Clemson, and then returned in 2009 and beat Virginia Tech 34-24.
Alabama will return to the Georgia Dome in 2014 to open the season against West Virginia. Alabama opened the 2012 season with the marquee game of the opening weekend in Dallas against Michigan as the Crimson Tide began their title quest with a 41-14 throttling of the Wolverines.
The last two Chick-Fil-A Kickoff games the Crimson Tide played in were prime time kickoffs, so this start time is a bit odd. The game will serve as the first part of a big doubleheader on the first Saturday with LSU playing TCU at 8:00 p.m. CT in the second game of the night on ESPN.
Georgia and Clemson will also kickoff at 7:00 p.m. CT on ABC in what will be a great opening weekend of college football. The season is still far away, but it’s never felt closer than it did today.
