Tide Tuesday: Alabama Crimson Tide in the News

Tide Hoops One Game Away from NYC

In the minds of many, this was a down year for SEC basketball. Kentucky did not make the NCAA field at all, leaving Missouri, Ole Miss and Florida to represent.  Florida, the only SEC team still standing, meets Cinderella on Friday for a chance to advance. In the NIT, Tennessee and Kentucky went home early but Alabama is one game away from the Semi-Finals in New York.  The Crimson Tide (23-12) face Maryland (24-12) tonight in Tuscaloosa at 6:30. It promises to be a tough game, but the Tide may end up being the last SEC still playing basketball this season. Follow Alabama Hoops on Twitter @AlabamaMBB.

Alabama’s Shrewd Hire

Last week, The University announced the hiring of Bill Battle as the new Athletics Director.  He understands the business of college sports and he knows the University is focused on excellence – always looking for ways to improve. Interestingly, he is 71 years old and is signed to a four year contract. Younger than the average Pope, certainly, but old enough to make Tide fans wonder if Nick Saban has his eye on the AD job a few years down the road.

Spring Football Strangely Silent

With the news of Mal Moore stepping down at AD overshadowing everything in Tuscaloosa, even the beginning of Spring Football practice has been strangely silent. Players will be looking to fill some open spots on the offensive line and that will be important for the chance of winning three in a row in the BCS.  Additionally, the Tide features the most depth at QB and Wide Receiver than most fans ever imagined. A-Day is set for April 20 this year but fans can continue to get news as it happens on Bama Hammer. Follow Alabama football on Twitter @AlabamaFTBL.

Softball Wins Series Against Auburn

Although Alabama (29-4) dropped a softball game to Auburn for the first time in seven years, the Tide answered with the most lopsided win in series history on Sunday. The defending champions, currently ranked #4, look to climb in the rankings as the meet Houston on the road for one game on Wednesday before a three game stand at Texas A&M over the weekend. Tide Baseball Faces UAB and Auburn This Week

Tide Baseball (16-9) is riding a six game win streak into Hoover today as they face in-state non-conference opponent UAB at the Hoover Met. Alabama is 42-19 over UAB all time, but is only 4-6 in the last ten meetings. UAB will travel to Tuscaloosa in April for a second game. Alabama faces Auburn on the road this weekend.
