Eddie Lacy clocked a best time of 4.58 in the 40-yard dash on Thursday, the first time he has run for NFL scouts since a minor injury earlier in the year. The time was not the fastest among running backs, but it did show that he is healing properly from a slight hamstring tear.
Pundits are undecided if a running back will be taken in the first round of the NFL draft in two weeks, but most agree that Lacy will be the first back chosen whenever the call is made for a running back. Speculation has focused on Denver, St. Louis, and Green Bay. Everyone has opinions, of course, and no one really knows what coaches will do when the time comes.
Eddie Lacy would be the third consecutive Crimson Tide running back selected in the first round if he is drafted early enough. He would join Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson as first round picks and LeRon McClain (FB) and Glen Coffee (RB) on the list of Alabama backs drafted in the Nick Saban era.
