Anthony Grant announced on Wednesday that his bench is once again fully staffed after several changes to the coaching staff after the 2012-2013 season.
Sean Dwyer will take over as special assistant to the head coach after spending the previous year as the team’s video cordinator. Dwyer is a graduate of Michigan State Unviversity, where he spent four years as a student manager under well-respected coach Tom Izzo. He was also the video cordinator at Arkasnas before accpeting the same position at Alabama under Anthony Grant. Dwyer also served various roles in his time on the Florida coaching staff under Billy Donovon.
Dwyer will be replacing former Tide great Antoine Pettway, who was promoted to assistant coach in late May. Pettway accepted the position after former assistant coach Dan Hipsher left the program to become the head coach at Texas-Pan America. John Brannen was also promoted to associate head coach. Brannen formerly served as the recruiting cordinator under Coach Grant. He was apart of Grant’s coaching staff at VCU from 2006-2009. Brannen has proven himself as one of the best recruiters in the SEC in recent years. He played a major role in the recruitment of both Devonta Pollard and Trevor Lacey, two of Alabama’s top prospects during Anthony Grant’s tenure. Brannen also recruited Eric Maynor and Larry Sanders to VCU. Both Maynor and Sanders are currently on active NBA rosters.
“I feel each of these individuals have proved themselves to be ready to take the next step and I am excited about the staff we have as we head into the 2013-14 season,” Anthony Grant stated in a press release.
