Alabama Crimson Tide tight end Brian Vogler is on the preseason watch list for the 2013 John Mackey Award, given annually to the most outstanding college tight end.
Vogler, a 6-foot-7, 260-pound Junior out of Columbus, Ga., appeared in 13 games last season as a backup, hauling in two passes for 21 yards. He started in two games in 2012, against Ole Miss and Western Carolina.
The watch list, released Tuesday morning, contains five SEC players, including Vogler. The others are Rory Anderson of South Carolina, Malcolm Johnson of Mississippi State, Arthur Lynch of Georgia and C.J. Uzomah of Auburn.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2013 John Mackey recipient will be presented live on December 12, 2013 at The Home Depot CollegeFootball Awards Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The award’s namesake is John Mackey, considered by some as the best tight end to ever play the game. Mackey played ten seasons in the NFL for the Baltimore Colts and San Diego Chargers.
