Alabama Crimson Tide running back T.J. Yeldon was named Thursday as a candidate for the 2013 Doak Walker Award by the SMU Athletic Forum. The sophomore running back in part of a growing list of Crimson Tide candidates for college football awards.
As a freshman, Yeldon rushed for over 1,000 yards in a backup role to Eddie Lacy, although backup doesn’t do justice to Yeldon’s role last season. The product of Daphne, Al. had 154 carries and 12 touchdowns, including a memorable game-winner against SEC West rivals LSU.
Yeldon rushed for a season-high 153 yards when it mattered most in 2012; against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. His 1,108 yards on the year was a freshman rushing record, and he tied the touchdown record held by Mark Ingram.

The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 12, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February 2013.
