Projecting The 2013 Alabama Crimson Tide Depth Chart

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is expected to release the first official depth chart of the season on August 26th before the first game, but as fall camp gets closer to a finish certain spots looked to have been sorted out as far as first and seconds while others still need some sorting. The following depth chart was compiled be to what I expect the official one to look like. One thing to note I included both the slot receiver and h-back positions to the offense because of the offenses use of both extensively. Further notes on certain positions will be below the depth chart.

Offensive tackle Brandon Greene is listed here as Cyrus Kouandjio’s backup, which is where I think he will be, but he will likely be working as an extra tight end on short yardage and goal line situations as well.

Xzavier Dickson is listed at both defensive end and jack linebacker because he’ll be playing standing up in certain situations as a linebacker and on the line as a defensive end; as will Denzel Devall, who has impressed in camp. One interesting look will be when Alabama switches to a four-man defensive line, and the possibility of either Devall or Dickson on one end and Hubbard on the other end with Pagan and Stinson inside.

Listed as a backup safety to Vinnie Sunseri, Landon Collins will likely be playing the Money in dime packages and Geno Smith will be the Star in nickel packages.

If your prediction on the depth chart turns out to be correct, it says a lot about the talent of Chris Black if he’s a starter in the three WR set over Kenny Bell and DeAndrew White.

    • Josh Boutwell

I think Chris Black is going to be special, but let me clarify about the “positions.” Alabama recognizes each player with a spot (X, Z, SLOT) but at the same time players like Amari Cooper will line up all over the place. You will certainly see DeAndrew White, Kenny Bell, and even Christion Jones at times in the 3-wide set. Its just that Jones and Black are considered to be the “slot” guys right now, when it comes to the game there will be alot of different sets used with different guys in different spots. I would actually say that that if you were going to go by who sees the field most it would be Cooper, Norwood, Bell, White, and Black/Jones in that order. They’re all going to get action and I think we’re going to see much more 4 and 5 wide sets this year as well.

If Chris Black had not got last year we would be talking about the same way are praising Amari Cooper ! Black showed out in his first spring game.

I believe your depth chart for back up Quarterback is wrong Sim might go in as clean up Bama up by 21 points or more, because being sure handed and will not fumble but if AJ goes down and we have to use a QB that runs the team like Saban wants it ran Luke Del Rio going to be the man.RTR
