The Alabama Men’s Basketball season won’t begin for a couple more months, but the Crimson Tide will be participating in an early-season tournament as a top seeded team. It was already announced that Alabama would be participating the the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament, but now we know who they will be playing and where, as Alabama was selected as the No. 3 seed in tournament.
Being a top seed, Alabama will be playing host to teams in the South region of the tournament at Coleman Coliseum. They will tip off on Monday, November 18th at 7:00pm against Stillman. McNeese State and Georgia State will also being playing in Coleman Coliseum. The winner of each game will play the next day, Tuesday, November 19th, to compete for a spot in the semifinals in New York City at Madison Square Garden, an arena the Crimson Tide is very familiar with.
Other teams earning a top seed are Arizona, Duke and Rutgers. Twelve other teams are participating, but Alabama is the only SEC team that will be competing. Anthony Grant has really made the stock of Alabama Basketball one that commissioners of tournaments and fans alike will buy in to. Since Anthony Grant took over as the head coach of the Crimson Tide in 2009, the non-conference schedule has gotten big opponents and competed in numerous early-season tournaments.
“Year after year the NIT Season Tip-Off proves to be a showcase for outstanding teams, and this year is no different,” C.M. Newton said, who is the NIT selection committee chair. “We won’t be surprised at all to see these teams competing deep in the NCAA Championship come March.”
Games in the tournament will be broadcast by the ESPN family of networks. The games will be available on WatchESPN as well.
