Today the AP released a story claiming that a University of Texas regent spoke to Nick Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, two days after the Tide destroyed Notre Dame in the national championship to gauge his interest in coaching Texas. The regent did not say whether there was any interest from the Saban, but did say that he spoke to Mack Brown after the conversation with Sexton and asked if Brown was ready to retire. Brown said he was not.
Saban was asked about the supposed conversation on his radio show tonight, “Hey Coach,” and said he had no knowledge of any conversation about going to Texas. Saban said that this happens every year and mentioned how last year supposedly he had talked to the Cleveland Browns about going there.
“Terry and I are very happy here in Tuscaloosa,” Saban said. “We really love the University of Alabama. We really feel like a part of the community here and we have a lot of good friends here. And, quite frankly, I’m just too damn old to start over somewhere else.”
We can probably put this rumor in the “squashed” category.
