Alabama’s win over Colorado State didn’t produce much in the way of superstar plays or reasons to give out helmet stickers. But in terms of impact on the final outcome of the game, it’s hard to argue against running back Kenyan Drake as our player of the week.
Drake has worked his way back into the lineup after spending time with the scout team during fall camp, and has since shown flashes of being the player we’ve long advocated getting more touches. Against the Rams, Drake had as good a game as anyone on the field.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Powder Springs, Ga. rushed for just three yards Saturday, but scored the Tide’s first touchdown.
Later in the game he blocked a Colorado State punt, allowing Dillon Lee to scoop it up and return it for a touchdown. He also caught a pass from Tide quarterback AJ McCarron for 22 yards.
Drake’s hustle and determination to contribute in a game where a lack of focus seemed to be the norm is enough to earn him player of the week honors, and keep him solidly in the running back rotation headed into an SEC East showdown with the Ole Miss Rebels this week.
