Former Alabama receiver Julio Jones and his Atlanta Falcons got the worst news possible as it was revealed Jones will likely miss the remainder of the season due to a foot injury. Jones is currently second in the NFL in receiving yards with 580 and first in the NFL in receptions with 41. He was on pace for a career season before the injury, as he has been one of the few consistent aspects of the Falcons in 2013, making circus catch after circus catch to keep the team in games.
Jones fractured his foot during the NFL combine in 2011 and still managed to post one of the fasted 40-yard dash times there. The fear is that he may have suffered the same type of fracture against the Jets. He also broke his hand during the 2010 season and continued to play through the pain and set every single season receiving record at Alabama.
Jones expects to get a second opinion tomorrow from a doctor but it doesn’t look good. Falcons head coach Mike Smith just addressed the media and said that the “original prognosis was not encouraging,” but they won’t make any further statement until Julio gets the second opinion from a foot specialist tomorrow.
