Running back T.J. Yeldon has been consistent if not spectacular in his sophomore campaign, and eight games into the season picks up his first recognition as the BamaHammer Player of the Week.
Alabama’s lopsided win over the Tennessee Volunteers showed the Tide could dominate in all phases of the game. It’s generally been difficult to pick a player of the week in games where so many contributed, and this game is no exception.
While we toyed with the idea of awarding this week’s honor to Kevin Norwood for his clutch play, including his spectacular second-half catch, Yeldon’s stat line was impossible to ignore.
Yeldon carried 15 times for 72 yards, which was second to two-time player of the week Kenyan Drake. Ball control was again a problem for Drake, however, while Yeldon found the end zone three times in Alabama’s 45-10 rout of Tennessee.
The starting back for the Tide has 729 rushing on the season, and is in position to surpass his 1,000-yard rookie season.
Yeldon also caught three passes for 29 yards in the game, including a season-long 23-yarder. He has 133 receiving yards on the year.
