The Alabama Crimson Tide struggled in the first half against the LSU Tigers, but in the second half, a fake punt set the tone for the Tide, and the man responsible for its success is our BamaHammer Player of the week.
Senior linebacker C.J. Mosley was called on to quarterback the Alabama special teams on that fake punt, taking the snap and handing off to safety Jarrick Williams, who picked up the first down. At the time the score was tied at 17, and the Crimson Tide never looked back from that point.
Mosely, who becomes our second repeat honoree of the season, had 12 tackles against LSU, including 1.5 for a loss. He broke up three passes, two of which were almost interceptions. But it was this single play that made him the MVP in a game full of valuable players.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban confirmed after the game that Mosley spied the LSU defense in a punt safe coverage, and audibled the fake, which kept Alabama’s offense on the field and led to a touchdown.
“I trust C.J. to do anything,” Saban said in his postgame comments. “Watch my kids, take care of my house. So a (punt) fake is not much.”
