The Alabama football team returned to the practice field for the final time before spring break Friday afternoon, once again in full pads.
Junior nose tackle Darren Lake was not at practice, and others have claimed he wasn’t there earlier this week either, and Alabama has not mentioned a reason for his absence. Nick Saban will not speak to the media again until March 31st so it will likely be more than a week before we figure out what the deal is.
Receiver DeAndrew White was in a black, non-contact jersey for the first time and was still pedaling a stationary bike, which he has been doing for the majority of the spring thus far.
Former Alabama defensive lineman Wilson Love, who left the team back in January due to medical problems, was actually seen working with the defensive line as a coach. He is likely working as a graduate assistant.
Despite the Alabama Track and Field holding relays today, Tony Brown, who is part of the track and field team as well as the football team, was practicing with the football team. He is actually splitting time with Eddie Jackson at one of the starting cornerback spots at the moment.
Big-time true freshman offensive tackle Cameron Robinson is currently working with the third team group in position drills, but remember it is very, very early.
ArDarius Stewart was again with the receivers today and his experiment at safety is likely over completely.
Reggie Ragland was working beside Trey DePriest as in the inside linebackers in position drills so it looks like he along with Dillon Lee, who is competing for an outside linebacker spot as well, and Reuben Foster are competing for that “will” position on the inside.
In the brief media viewing periods, and subsequent videos that have come from that, show Blake Sims has progressed pretty nicely as a passer. He especially looked good in drills Lane Kiffin had the quarterbacks doing today with them throwing on the run. Sims leads the quarterbacks in position drills.
Tight end Corey McCarron is working with the running backs more than tight ends, during media viewing at least, which likely signifies his role at fullback along with Jalston Fowler.
Former Alabama safety HaHa Clinton-Dix and corner John Fulton were in attendance at today’s practice. The Alabama team is off for spring break following today and will return for practices on March 31st.
