Alabama hit the practice field for the final time Friday afternoon before the first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday. Alabama practiced inside on a gloomy, rainy Friday.
DeAndrew White is still recovering from whatever surgery he had at the beginning of the year and was not practicing. It’s very odd that Nick Saban has not at least commented on White’s status.
Alabama showed their dime defense for the first time during a media viewing period this afternoon. In that formation Trey DePriest held down the middle linebacker spot with Jarrick Williams at star and Geno Smith at money. Nick Perry and Landon Collins were the safeties while Eddie Jackson and Bradley Sylve were the corners with the first unit. Dillon Lee was actually spotted shadowing Jarrick Williams at star meaning that may be yet another player the versatile Lee will play at. Cyrus Jones and Tony Brown were manning the cornerback spots with the second team during dime drills while Hootie Jones was one of the safeties.
Strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran continues to work hard with the running backs on fumble drills. All during practice he will try to sneak up behind the backs and punch footballs out of their hands as they carry two at all times.
Freshman Cameron Sims is turning heads already with how big and imposing he is already.
In other news, former Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens for a one year contract. Cody has spent his entire career in Baltimore. He started every game at nose tackle in 2011, his second year in the league, but when Haloti Ngata was moved from defensive end to nose tackle in the Ravens 3-4 defense Cody fell behind the perennial pro bowler on the depth chart.
Alabama’s 2015 recruiting class received good news from four star offensive lineman Richie Petibon III, grandson of former Washington Redskins head coach Richie Petibon, making him the ninth commitment to the class already. Petibon joins four star defensive ends Mekhi Brown (Columbus, GA) and Jonathan Ledbetter (Tucker, GA), four star safety Deionte Thompson (Orange, TX), four star wide receiver Daylon Charlot (Patterson, LA), four star running back Desherrius Flowers (Prichard, AL), fellow four star offensive linemen Dallas Warmack (Atlanta, GA), who is the brother of former Alabama All American Chance Warmack, and Lester Cotton (Tuscaloosa, AL), and three star defensive end Anfernee Jennings (Dadeville, AL) as Alabama commitments.
