Alabama Crimson Tide head basketball coach Anthony Grant announced Tuesday that senior forward Nick Jacobs had been released from his scholarship at the university.
Grant wished Jacobs well on his departure from the Crimson Tide in a university press release.
“We want to thank Nick for his contributions to our program the past three seasons. We wish him success with the next chapter of his career.”
Jacobs ended the 2013–2014 season on an indefinite leave of absence due to personal issues.
He joins forward Carl Engstrom and guard Algie Key as notable departures from the team this offseason.
Jacobs was a vital part of Anthony Grant’s first successful recruiting class which also included fellow transfer Trevor Lacey, who is now enrolled at NC State.
Jacobs averaged 8.4 points per game this season and was the Tide’s third leading scorer on the year.
Jacobs hasn’t spoken to the media since the announcement was made, but the Atlanta native could land a bit closer to home.
The news comes only days after former Florida Gulf Coast and Chaminade guard Christopher Varidel announced that he would enroll at Alabama for his final year of eligibility.
Varidel notably scored 42 points in a loss to the Baylor Bears in the 2013 Maui Invitational. He chose Alabama over UCLA.
