Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban had a brief but forceful answer to questions about a player being offered a car to sign with the Tide.
FOX Sports personality and Tennessee Volunteers partisan Clay Travis reported on Thursday that former West Virginia quarterback Pat White claimed that Alabama offered him a Corvette to come play for the TIde (We won’t link the article and give him more free publicity; it’s easily found elsewhere.)
Mike Organ, a reporter for The Tennesseean (notice a pattern here?) caught up with Saban, who was appearing in Nashville for a Crimson Caravan event, and asked him to comment on the claims.
Saban’s response was, well, classic Nick Saban:
Smirking to mask his frustration, Saban replied, “Is this the best thing we can talk about?” before muttering, “Kiss my ass.”
White’s claims come on the heels of the controversy generated by Tide running back Derrick Henry, who tweeted a photo of himself posed in front of a new Dodge Challenger. The tweet was quickly deleted when rival fans responded as you’d expect.
Charles Evans of our sister site Lightly Buzzed had this to say about White’s claims:
I of course believe that Alabama did offer Pat White a Corvette; I mean when you come across third string backup for the Edmonton Eskimos talent you want to get it locked down. White was never offered a quarterback scholarship at Alabama; he was offered as a DB. It sounds like someone still has a three-star chip on their shoulder even after becoming a darling of the CFL.
Whatever you think of White’s charges (or Henry’s Charger), it’s clear the bull’s eye is squarely on Alabama, even in an off-season where the Tide are the defending champions of exactly nothing.
It’s good to be on the top of the mountain.
