Former Alabama Crimson Tide safety Vinnie Sunseri has signed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.
Sunseri was taken in the 2014 NFL Draft with the 167th overall pick, just three picks after former Tide quarterback AJ McCarron. Terms of the deal, which was announced on Friday, were not disclosed.
Sunseri surprised fans and analysts alike when he declared for the draft. The junior was recovering from a torn ACL, and it was thought that he would need his senior season to raise his draft stock.
The Tuscaloosa native was known as a ball hawk in his time at Alabama, with great instincts and a desire to make impact plays. The knock on him was that he lacked elite speed, but his instincts and desire have thus far in his career made up the difference.
Sunseri will be on the New Orleans sidelines with fellow Alabama alum, Saints running back Mark Ingram.
