Jimbo Fisher Says Jacob Coker Is Saban's Best QB Ever

Jacob Coker is the best quarterback of the Nick Saban era, according to Florida State Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher. And Coker hasn’t even lobbed a pass for Alabama – yet.

According to an interview with TideSports managing editor D.C. Reeves, there’s no question who the starter should be when the Crimson Tide open their season against West Virginia.

“Including what they’ve had, he’s much more talented than anything they’ve had,” Fisher said. “I don’t mean to discredit the previous guys, they were all great. But this guy is extremely talented. Arm and mind.”

Fisher went on to say that Coker has all the tools a head coach wants in his signal caller. Calling him “a tremendous human being,” Fisher said that he is gifted with a mind for the game, a tireless work ethic and a cannon arm.

He also praised Coker’s running ability and his physicality, saying, “He likes contact, he’s not a guy who backs off. Just extremely tough and competitive.”

Fisher said that Coker will have no trouble learning Lane Kiffin’s offernse. He also credits Coker with a depth and breadth of experience that no other QB can have in this situation, due to his having been with FSU for three years before transferring to Alabama.

“His knowledge of the game will be so much above those type guys it’s ridiculous. It’s not even close to the same. Jake understands protections, how to slide Mikes (middle linebackers), how to hot (throw hot routes), how to sight, he gets all of that where those (younger) players wouldn’t have a clue on that stuff.”

If he is so high on him why didn’t he find a way to keep him?

You have a good point, BUT do remember his other QB just won the Heisman. The same reason applies to Coker transferring to Bama as other QB’s transferring out of Bama. Only one ball. Everyone can’t start. ok with it. Some aren’t.

Exactly correct. Winston isn’t going anywhere until after next season, so there’s no shame in Coker not getting the starting nod. Knowing he’s good enough to start at most schools, it was a smart play for him to transfer.

Amen! That makes many of us relieved since the QB play at the Alabama spring game etc leaves a lot to be desired. Thank you for this news article!!!!

You know what? BS is cheap, and it’s always flowing. This crap about how great Coker was, but how inept he was to be a starter at FSU, is just the normal idiotic coach speak. Is he more of a talent than Wilson, McKelroy, and McCarron? No. They were all talented enough to start. They also had serious competition. But they won the job. Coker had Manuel, and Winston. They are both talented, and Coker could do no better than clipboard against them. Now, suddenly, he is the “savior” at Alabama. BS! He’d better hope he can be the first clipboard holder at Alabama, because no one is “giving” him the job. And we already know he doesn’t know how to earn one.
