Four-star quarterback Blake Barnett of Corona, CA has committed to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Barnett’s decision gives Alabama its 19th commitment of the 2015 class.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Barnett is a product of Santiago High School, and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 65 overall prospect and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the country.
Barnett announced his decision on Bleacher Report:
The QB told Bleacher Report that his trip to Tuscaloosa was love at first sight.
“When I went down there, I absolutely fell in love with the coaches, with the school itself. I think Alabama’s the place for me. I think it’s the place that’s going to develop me as a person and as an athlete.”
Barnett said that he met with Nick Saban six times over three days, and that Saban thought he was a good fit, both athletically and scholastically.
In 2013 Barnett had 2,322 passing yards in 2013 with 22 touchdowns. Santiago High School head coach Jeff Steinberg told AL.com that Barnett was working to become a complete quarterback, and that his mobility is an asset, not a liability, to a pro-set team like Alabama.
“No matter what, in this day in age, you need to be able to extend plays,” Steinberg said. “The more stuff you can do, the better. He’s done work in the shotgun and under center.”
