Video: Scott Van Pelt Gigs Alabama Fans About National Titles

Alabama fans are used to rivals making light of their claim to 15 national football championships. But it’s pretty bad when the golf world gets in on the act.

ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt trolled Crimson Tide fans just a bit during coverage of the U.S. Open.

While covering Robby Shelton, Van Pelt noted that Shelton was part of Alabama’s back-to-back golf national championship teams, adding a “Roll Tide” to his commentary. He then dropped this barb:

“[Alabama] football fans are trying to figure out how they can claim those two, too.”

The video capture comes from an Auburn site, where Tigers fans are still doing mental gymnastics to figure out how they will be able to continue mocking Alabama, while making ludicrous claims about their own championship history.

For the record, we’ve extensively covered Alabama’s legitimate championship claims, as well as some they could, but don’t.
