Alabama Crimson Tide Practice Report: Day 2

As camp day 2 arrives for the Crimson Tide, the veterans and freshmen intermingled into their first full session together.  From the media viewing period per AL.com:

"TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Two days into camp and Alabama’s already dealing with Mother Nature.Luckily, the heavy stuff didn’t hit until the media was ushered back to the parking lot. Here’s the latest.Setting the sceneAlabama’s veterans and younger players came together for the first full-team practice of the preseason. The players wore helmets, jerseys and shorts for a second straight day. The skies were cloudy — before the rain started — and the temperature was 84 degrees. What we saw— Alabama’s three suspended defensive players — Jarran Reed, Brandon Ivory and Tim Williams — remain suspended. From here on forward, we’ll only mention them if there’s a change in their status.— OL Leon Brown (foot) is not at the stage of his recovery that puts him on the practice field while media is watching, so we’ve yet to see him.— Ryan Anderson continued his work with the inside linebackers. He’s been an outside linebacker the past two years. This may be his clearest path to some playing time, though he’ll still need to clear a few folks in front of him.— Alabama may be down two defensive linemen, but the group is still fairly robust. Veterans Dalvin Tomlinson, A’Shawn Robinson and Jonathan Allen — in that order from left to right — were at the front of the lines as they went through early-practice drills.— Both Wilson Love and Darius Paige remain a fixture at Alabama practices. Paige is more of a supportive bystander while Love appears to be coaching the players up.— On our way off the field, we caught junior LB Dillon Lee giving freshman Rashaan Evans some on-field coaching as he went through a drill.— New tight end Dakota Ball was paired with senior Brian Vogler during one particular drill. Vogler’s the oldest and wisest of the group, so it makes sense.— There were plenty of prospective student-athletes watching today’s practice.— One thing that stands out when we look over at the specialists? Freshman P JK Scott is very tall.— Adam Griffith and Adrian Lamothe appear to be the only kickers on that area of the field at the moment. There’ll be more when school starts.— Dominick Jackson appeared to be taking a few reps at left tackle behind Cam Robinson and Brandon Greene. He’ll be moving around a bunch over the next few days.— Reuben Foster and Reggie Ragland, presumed to be competing against each other to start alongside Trey DePriest, have been spotted working alongside each other a bunch during the first two days. Perhaps it’s a sign that a three-man rotation — much like 2012 with DePriest, C.J. Mosley and Nico Johnson — is on the horizon. What’s next?Alabama does not have any media responsibilities after today’s practice. It has a whole bunch tomorrow, as Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin — yes, Lane Kiffin — and many, many players will meet with reporters for Media Day before Fan Day. It’s a busy Sunday.http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2014/08/alabama_practice_report_vetera.html"

Seems the veteran interactions with the freshmen are starting to take effect with guys like Dillon Lee showing fresh faces like Rashaan Evans the ropes in their first full squad practices.  And even guys like Brian Vogler helping Dakota Ball transition from DL to TE.

Check back tomorrow for coverage of Sunday’s Fan Day practice on the Houndztooth!!!
