Alabama Hasn’t Even Scratched the Surface of Lane Kiffin’s Playbook, Yet

"Through two games, Alabama fans have started to get an idea about new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s offense and how it may be different or similar to what the Crimson Tide have run in the past.Essentially, it’s not that different from Alabama’s offense under head coach Nick Saban. There’s a heavy emphasis on running the ball with power and setting up the play action. But we’ve also seen a number of new formations and players being used in different ways. And, we’ve only seen a small part of it."

I have had this in the back of my mind. The quarterbacks keep targeting Amari Cooper but like Brian Vogler said, there is no reason to go away from him if the defenses haven’t been able to stop it. We may see a few more variations and plays this weekend but it’s a sure bet that we will see something different against Florida.

No. 3 Alabama having early success getting to QBs

"Alabama offensive tackle Austin Shepherd would rather not try to single out the toughest guy on his own defense to block so he starts rattling off their attributes instead.“They all have different moves,” Shepherd said. “A’Shawn Robinson’s a huge dude who can bull rush. Jonathan Allen, quick hands. D.J. Pettway, fast off the edge. I could go on forever. They have something different that you have to be aware of.”The third-ranked Crimson Tide’s efforts to be more effective at harassing opposing quarterbacks have paid off going into Saturday’s game against Southern Miss, with six sacks by five players through two games."

That’s what I have been wanting: a pass rush. Expect to see even more sacks as soon as we get away from playing these fast ball teams. Most of the time, the ball is out of the quarterbacks hand just after it’s snapped. Another tidbit that I heard on “The Game” on WDGM out of Tuscaloosa: Rashaan Evans has a different speed than everyone else in practice and he is unblockable. Put him in, Coach.

Anatomy of Alabama’s WR screen pass and how it’s become the ultimate weapon

"The offensive coordinator has changed, but the mentality hasn’t.If Alabama figures out an easy, efficient way to pick up first downs against its opponent, it has no shame running the same exact play over and over again. And again. And again.“If something is working for us,” senior tight end Brian Vogler said, “we are going to use it the rest of the game.”"

There is that Vogler quote I mentioned near the beginning. It’s also an absolutely wonderful write up from the guys at AL.com

Tide defense helped by a healthy Jackson

"Eddie Jackson would tell anyone who’d listen that he was coming back. It didn’t matter that he tore up his knee late in spring practice. It didn’t matter that the five-month, post-surgery timeline he laid out seemed wholly improbable. The lanky cornerback from South Florida was determined to get back on the field early in his sophomore season. The thought of taking a redshirt year was almost out of the question.According to veteran safety Nick Perry, “He made it his mission to be back for the season.”"

I know I’m glad he is back. The secondary looked a lot better against Florida Atlantic. Jackson was a man on a mission that day, for sure. And he was going to prove to the coaches that he wanted to play and wanted to be out there. Mission accomplished.
