Cody Prewitt, Let Your Play Do The Talking

Many athletes now take to the media to say things when in reality, they should let their play on the field do the talking. Ole Miss defensive back Cody Prewitt is the latest to do so.

Shortly after the Rebels’ 24-3 win over the Memphis Tigers, Prewitt may have provided a bit of bulletin board for the Tide.

“We understand that we haven’t played a team that’s going to be as good as Bama,” Prewitt told FoxSports.com. “But we don’t really think Bama is as good as they have been. And we’re better than we have been. We’re looking forward to getting to the game plan and really nailing down all the tweaks and stuff that we’re going to have to put into Bama.”

Yeah, it’s not really all the bad but it probably can give a little more motivation for the Crimson Tide. It’s certainly not as bad as what Rebels quarterback Bo Wallace said before the game last year.

“Yeah, I think we can put points on them,” Wallace said, according to AL.com. “I think we can put points on anybody. We just have to show up and play. It’s the same thing every week, let’s stay on schedule, control the tempo and don’t have any turnovers.” We all knew how that turned out which was the Rebels being shut out last year.

It seems the ones that always make these types of statements are the teams that lack discipline on the field. The Rebels had 10 penalties on Saturday against Memphis including a flag and ejection for this one.

A lot of these players would probably be better off if they let their actions on the field talk more than their mouths. If you win, throw a couple of jabs and then move on to the next opponent. You will have earned it.

Auburn is the Tide’s most hated rival and the players from both sides always have something positive to say about each other before the game. It could be just a general comment saying that their opponent has been doing a great job or even a compliment to a player, praising his play on the field.

It seems the ones that haven’t been there too much before are usually the ones to run off at the mouth. My dad used to tell me all of the time: Never let your battleship mouth overload your rowboat butt.

I suppose going 4-0 for the first time since 1970 as well as having a 9-47-2 (8-51-2 on the field) series record to your opponent will make you say strange things.

It’s possible Prewitt backs it up and also puts Ole Miss in the position to hang another Co-Western Division Champs banner in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the end of the season.

Update: Looks like they heard.
