Alabama Recruiting: Who Could The Tide Close With For 2015?

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s about time for Alabama recruiting to get in to the full swing of things over the next few months until National Signing Day in February. As of right now, recruiting is in a dead period which means not much action or news but as soon as that is over, it all begins. The Tide currently has 22 commits and the number for this year is apparently 27. We will take a look at the ones that have the best chance of ending in this class and who we may close with for the year.

Class of 2015 DT Daron Payne |4-star | 6-foot-3, 315 pound

As of now, this one seems to be leaning toward the Tide. The Auburn staff visited him this weekend just before the dead period but Payne did drive over to Tuscaloosa to visit. What does that mean? It means Saban still has his in-home visit to do after the dead period is over. It’s long been the opinion of most that Payne will end up with the Crimson Tide but you can never tell with recruiting. Auburn’s new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will try and close the gap with him but it may be too little, too late.

Current Crystal Ball Projection: Alabama 92-percent

Class of 2015 WR Lawrence Cager | 4-star | 6-foot-5, 210 pound

If Louisiana native Daylon Charlot decides to go with LSU after his decommittment from the Tide, I think you could see the staff push for this prospect. He was once an Ohio State lean but just last, he dropped them out of his top five more than likely due to the offensive coordinator change that will happen after the season with Herman taking the Houston job. The Tide is currently in third for the Townsend, MD prospect but could start the late surge for his services soon. Even after the below tweet, crystal ball predictions were still coming in. He will official visit to Tuscaloosa on January 16.

Current Crystal Ball Projection: Ohio State 68-percent, Alabama 19-percent

 Class of 2015 DE CeCe Jefferson | 5-star | 6-foot-2, 250 pound

With the staff turnover at Florida, it is believed that it opened the door for Alabama to come in. If the Gators make a great hire on the defensive side of the ball, Jefferson could end up there. From all accounts so far, it’s definitely trending up with the Tide. Some believe Ole Miss is a player but one source told me that he ultimately believed it would come down to the Tide and Gators. Jefferson was on campus this weekend and checked out things when there wasn’t a football game going on. I think it impressed his parents. He plans to wait a while on his decision and mentioned on Twitter that he may go to Ole Miss after the dead period.

Current Crystal Ball Projection: Florida 85-percent, Alabama 6-percent

Class of 2015 RB Damien Harris | 4-star |  5-foot-11, 205 pound

This may not be the running back that Saban and staff lands but I believe that this is the one they have zeroed in on. Ohio State, Kentucky, and Alabama seemed to be the top three for the longest for his services but now, it’s believed that it is down to Kentucky and Alabama. Saban just made a visit up to see him last week. If Harris chooses to go Kentucky and play for the in-state school, there are a few options on the table left that the staff will look at. We will get to those if we see we have to make a change.

Current Crystal Ball Projection: Kentucky 43-percent, Ohio State 38-percent, Alabama 11-percent

That’s only four spots for five possibly so that leaves the option open for a patented “Saban surprise” to close out recruiting. Those usually start to evolve in the coming weeks if there is going to be one.
