Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran is many things. Quiet and reserved are not chief among them. And in 2011, Cochran writ his name in an NSFW version of crimson flame in the Iron Bowl with one immortal phrase – Run another trick play, b!tch!
Much like Tommy Lewis was “simply too full of Bama” when he came off the sidelines of the 1954 Cotton Bowl to make a tackle against Rice, Cochran found himself brimming with Bama in the first quarter of Alabama’s 2011 destruction of Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl.

Unlike Lewis, Cochran’s crime didn’t directly impact a play. But it did illustrate just how much Alabama wanted to stick it to Auburn that year.
First, one must flash back to 2010 – when Auburn’s son of a preacher quarterback lucked the Tigers past Alabama (yes, luck … anyone ever seen a fumble bounce dead straight like Mark Ingram’s did that game?) at Bryant-Denny Stadium en route to a tainted national championship and the vow of “Never Again”.
That lit the fire under coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide for the 2011 meeting. And clearly, that fire swept through to Saban’s irascable strength coach.
Knowing that Alabama had a decided edge on defense, Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Gus Malzahn supposedly threw the kitchen sink at Alabama – with largely comical results. In fact, at the 5:43 mark in the first quarter, Scott Cochran was caught by the CBS cameras clearly screaming “Run another trick play, bitch!” at Gus Malzahn and the Auburn sidelines.

Thus, Cochran’s hilarious plea for another ginned-up attempt at cracking the Alabama defensive code was born.
Alabama won the game going away, 42-14, en route to the 2011 national championship. Auburn? Well, they fired head coach Gene Chizik a year later and brought back Malzahn to ostensibly run another trick play or two.
The Crimson Tide and Tigers will meet for the 81st time in series history, with Alabama owning the all-time advantage, 44-35-1. Most recently, the Tide claimed a 29-13 victory in Auburn to clinch the SEC Western Division title and close out the 2015 regular season schedule.
