Alabama remains number one in the Associated Press and Amway Coaches polls this week. This comes after last Saturday’s win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Florida is No. 15 in in the AP poll and No. 16 in the Amway Coaches’ Poll this week. Alabama is No. 1 and Florida No. 15 in the College Football Playoff Rankings released Nov. 29.

Series History

Alabama and Florida will meet for the 40th time this Saturday, Dec. 3. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage, 25-14 (actual 26-14). Both teams are tied 4-4 in SEC Championship games against one another. In the most recent matchup at the 2015 SEC Championship game, Alabama defeated Florida at the Georgia Dome, 29-15.

These teams have squared off in some epic battles. Alabama claimed a victory in 2005 before falling to the Gators in 2006 in Gainesville and 2008 in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide has since rallied back, earning victories in the last four matchups. Those include the 2009 SEC title and dominating the Gators in the three regular season contests.

The  Gators enter the SECCG 8-3 overall record and 6-2 in the SEC. Florida opened the season with three straight home wins over Massachusetts, Kentucky, and North Texas. However, Tennessee dealt the Gators their first loss in Knoxville. Florida rebounded to defeat Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Georgia. Following a loss at Arkansas, Florida ended SEC play with wins over South Carolina and LSU. The win over the Tigers clinched the SEC Eastern Division crown. The Gators lost to in-state rival Florida State to close out the regular season. Florida is 18-7 under second-year head coach Jim McElwain.
