Alabama Sports: Let’s Check Out The Latest Team Rankings

Alabama sports has a history of National and SEC Championships. The Alabama football championships are well known but Men’s and Women’s Golf, Gymnastics and Softball have earned National and SEC Championships. Let’s check on the current national rankings for these and other Tide teams.

The 21st century has been kind to Alabama sports, with Football, Gymnastics, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf and Softball winning a combined 11 National Championships.

Football: 2009: 2011; 2012; 2015
Gymnastics: 2002; 2011; 2012
Men’s Golf: 2013; 2014
Women’s Golf: 2012
Softball: 2012
Let’s take a look at the current status of the Gymnastics, Softball and Golf teams. We’ll update the current national ranking for each and preview this season’s championship opportunities. We’ll also update the recent accomplishments of other Alabama sports.

Alabama Women’s Basketball

Alabama Women’s basketball had a great season winning 22 games and getting to the Elite Eight of the WNIT Great Run for Lady Tide.

 Alabama Gymnastics

Next up for Alabama Gymnastics is the NCAA Regionals in Morgantown, West Virginia on April 1.

In the NCAA Regionals, Alabama will compete as the No. 1 seed and face No. 7 ranked Michigan, Southern Utah, George Washington, Kent State and West Virginia. The top two teams in the meet will advance to the NCAA Championships. Searching for a Seventh National Championship

Alabama Gymnastics continues to be ranked No. 6 in the nation. The Crimson Tide follows Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Utah and UCLA in the national rankings. Other ranked SEC teams are Georgia at No.10; Kentucky at No.12; Missouri at No.15.

Alabama Women’s Golf

The Alabama Women’s Golf team continues to be ranked No.3 in the nation, behind Stanford and USC. Other ranked SEC teams are: Florida, No.5; Georgia, No.10; South Carolina, No.11; Arkansas, No.16; Texas A&M, No.18.

The Tide women have two wins and two runner-up finishes in the 2016-17 tournament season. Their next tournament is the Bryan National Collegiate, hosted by Wake Forest. The three tournament rounds are Mar. 31 thru April 2.

Alabama Women’s Golf sophomores Cheyenne Knight and Lauren Stephenson lead the Tide team. Knight is ranked No. 3 in the nation with a scoring average of 69.83. Stephenson is ranked No. 7 with a scoring average of 70.61. Freshman Kristen Gillman has moved into the Top 20 Women’s College Golfers, tied at No. 19 with a scoring average of 71.50.

Alabama Softball

Alabama Softball is currently ranked No.9 in the nation by USA Softball and ESPN. SEC foes ranked above Alabama are Florida, No.2; Auburn, No.5; and Texas A&M, No.7. Other ranked SEC teams: LSU, No.10; Kentucky, No.16; Georgia, No.18; Tennessee, No.20; Arkansas, No.23 and Ole Miss, No.24.

Alabama Softball is also ranked No. 7 in the Division I Softball RPI.

Alabama softball has a three-game series this weekend against Missouri in Columbia.

Alabama Men’s Golf

Alabama Men’s Golf is currently unranked.

Alabama Men’s Golf is the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, March 29 – April 2.

Alabama Track and Field and Cross Country

Next for Alabama Track and Field are the Florida Relays on March 30 – April 1 in Tallahassee.
