Alabama football has two practices and a scrimmage left in the spring season. What should fans look for as spring practice comes to a close?

There was a time when getting to the Waysider early on a weekday morning was the best way to learn what was really going on with Alabama football.

In the compact dining area, all you had to do was listen. Most conversations included tidbits of information about the University and the football program.

These days there is more to be gleaned by surveying the digital landscape of multitudinous sources. The problem with this wondrous abundance of information is in separating the sense from the nonsense.

That’s where we come in. This column will endeavor to guide that process of discernment.

We’ll peruse message boards, podcasts, tweets, talk radio and numerous digital communication platforms. We’ll ferret out the most worthwhile information and offer our take on what it means.

The Daily Insider: April 17

The last week of spring training includes practices on Tuesday and Thursday, leading up to A-Day on Saturday. Not much has happened since Friday’s scrimmage. In case you missed our scrimmage report Daily Insider: Scrimmage No. 2

Let’s start this Monday with an artful hype video from the Nole Nation.

Two teams similar in many ways. Both needing to at least reload. Both teams likely to be ranked in the pre-season top 5. Two teams that with a win will lead the chase to the College Football Playoff. What a way to start a football season.

With little news report from Easter weekend, let’s take the time to better get to know Bama’s other freshman phenom running back, Brian Robinson. Check out this video compliments of al.com

Bo Scarbrough, B.J. Emmons, Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs have been limited this spring. Najee Harris and Brian Robinson have been given extra touches. Both freshman running backs have been very impressive.

Brian is reported to be a young man not bothered by the competition from the Tide’s deep stable of running backs. Speaking of that competition, check out our Profile of Najee Harris.

Scarbrough and Emmons are not expected to take part in the A-Day game.  Damien Harris is recovering from an ankle sprain and may miss A-Day as well. Jacobs missed the first scrimmage with a thigh bruise but returned for the second scrimmage.

Brian Robinson and Najee Harris should see plenty of action Saturday.

For fans hoping A-Day include more offensive explosions like the first two scrimmages – you may be disappointed. Nick Saban typically keeps the majority of the offense under wraps in the nationally televised game. With a new offensive coordinator, we can expect to see some new sets but combined with vanilla play-calling.

There will still be plenty of excitement on Saturday. Tide fans will get to see if either Tua or Mac Jones look capable of stepping should an injury befall Jalen Hurts. Fans can also assess if the right side of the offensive line has been solidified. Another main item of A-Day interest will be the immediate backups at each of the six secondary positions.
