Alabama Golf Women’s and Men’s teams finish strong in SEC Championship Tournaments. Former Crimson Tide men finish in the money in the PGA Valero Open.

Alabama Women’s Golf

The Alabama golf women’s team lit up the Greystone Club in the final round of the SEC Championship Tournament. The Tide women shot a team score of 13-under par Sunday. The Tide’s team score of 275 was the lowest round of the tournament, topping SEC Champion Florida’s best round by five shots.

Alabama finished a distant second to Florida for the SEC Championship. The Tide stumbled in Friday’s opening round, posting a team score of 7-over par. Friday’s scoring deficit was too much to overcome in a 54 hole stroke play event.

Cheyenne Knight led the Tide on Sunday, posting a 6-under, 66 score. In case you missed it, here a little more on Cheyenne from earlier in the season. Lauren Stephenson came close to matching her teammate. Stephenson shot a 5-under, 67 score.

Next up for the No. 1 ranked Alabama women’s golf team will be the NCAA regionals May 8-10.

For those who care (and count us in that group) the Alabama women finished the 2017 SEC Championship 39 strokes better than Auburn.

Purportedly the Auburn women were all smiles on Sunday. That is hard to believe considering they finished dead last AND had to wear those atrocious orange caps.

Alabama Men’s Golf

The Alabama men’s team finished fourth in the SEC Championship Tournament. Alabama was in seventh position after 54 holes of stroke play.

Sunday morning in the match play quarterfinals, the Alabama men defeated LSU 3-1-1 to advance to the Sunday afternoon semifinals.

In a tight Sunday afternoon match, the Crimson Tide men were defeated by Texas A&M, 3-2. The Tide’s Lee Hodges and Jonathan Hardee were the two semifinal match winners.

The Alabama golf men’s team should receive a bid to the NCAA Men’s Regionals.

PGA Valero Texas Open

Former Crimson Tide men Bud Cauley, Robby Shelton and Michael Thompson had a good week at the Valero Open. Cauley finished tied for 10th at 6-under for the tournament.

Robby Shelton, playing on a sponsor’s exemption finished tied for16th at 4-under for the tournament. Michael Thompson finished in a tie for 49th position.

Cauley and Thompson have full playing privileges on the 2017 PGA tour. Shelton will be competing in a mixture of Mackenzie Tour (Canada), Web.com Tour and some PGA events in 2017.
