Alabama football and basketball fans, you got to love Charles Barkley. The refreshingly honest and direct Barkley, admits Saban is the ‘Greatest of All-Time’

At the outset, count us in the fans of Charles Barkley club. Even before he announced Alabama football coach Nick Saban as the ‘Goat’ we admired Charles’ style.

Barkley is currently at a ‘Fat Farm’ in San Antonio, spending six weeks to lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle. We wish him well.

After Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Sporting News reported Charles’ announcement about leaving before the NBA season was over.

"“I’m going to a fat farm, I’m embarrassed at how fat I’ve become. I’m not healthy. I’m not getting any younger and, one thing you don’t see is a lot of fat old people.”"

We have followed Barkley’s career since he was the “Round Mound of Rebound” for Auburn basketball. Many times we watched in dismay as the pudgy Charles outplayed the taller and stronger Alabama big man, Bobby Lee Hurt.

It took us well into Barkley’s NBA career before we could consider forgiving him for being an Aubie. In Charles’ post-NBA player career, it has been easy to be a Barkley fan.

We appreciate his outspoken honesty that does not appear contrived. We admire even more his ability to laugh at himself along with others.

Even if you are not a golfer you can appreciate how bad Charles is on a golf course.

The video is titled accurately as the ‘worst golf swing’ and to Charles’ credit, he subjects himself to golfing humiliation in high-profile public settings over and over. He turned to famed golf teacher Hank Haney to rebuild his swing. There was some improvement for a few rounds but Charles relapsed to original form.

Now he embraces his golfing incompetence and shapes it into entertainment.

Charles can be serious as well. His four-hour documentary series titles American Race was a worthy effort at serious conversation on a serious issue.

We can now say that Nick Saban is the GOAT (greatest of all time). Why? Because Auburn man Charles Barkley says so. Charles tells me that Saban is clearly the greatest coach in college football history, and he does not hesitate to tell me why. If you are an Auburn fan are you OK with Charles saying this? If you agree with Charles give this post a "like" so we can get a feel for what you're thinking. Share this post if you'd like, and be sure to leave a comment!
