The Alabama football list of 2020 commits was minus one name on Tuesday. Let’s discuss what comes next with prospects and future rosters.

Sometimes a player de-committing can leave a big hole in a coming signing class. For Alabama football, that was not the case on Tuesday. In-state 4-Star wide receiver, Dazalin Worsham changed his mind after being committed to the Crimson Tide for over a year. A recent visit to South Florida apparently changed his mind.

According to the 247Sports Composite Worsham is the No. 48 WR in the 2020 class and the No. 257 player overall.

There is zero indication the Alabama football staff pushed Worsham away. Several insiders also say there is little to no chance the Tide staff tries to get him back. Nothing against Worsham but there are other options as good or better.

Alabama football fans have been concerned about roster building at wide receiver, knowing the high probability Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Devonta Smith will exit for the NFL after the 2019 season. No doubt that is a bunch of talent to replace. But, Tide fans need not be too concerned.

The current WR roster has talented backups. Holding on to commits Thaiu Jones-Bell, Javon Baker and Traeshon Holden is important. One or more wideout prospects are likely to be added to the 2020 class.

2020 Wide Receiver Roster (current players only)

  • Jaylen Waddle – Junior
  • Tyrell Shavers – Redshirt Junior
  • Xavier Williams – Junior
  • Slade Bolden – Junior
  • John Metchie – Sophomore

Waddle will be one of the best in the nation. Shavers still has the potential to become a great player. If John Metchie can get enough 2019 touches, after the Tide’s big-four, he can amaze as a freshman. Insiders say the Alabama football coaching staff is very high on Williams and Bolden. So the cupboard will not be bare.

Also, now redshirt sophomore, Chadarius Townsend is still listed as a wide receiver. He spent the spring trying out at running back. Townsend is a gifted athlete who can make things happen with the ball in his hand. If his hands are good enough, he too could become an impact wideout. Add Townsend and the Crimson Tide will return six scholarship wideouts and maybe seven depending on Devonta Smith’s Draft grade.

2020 Roster with Wideout Commits

Reviews of Jones-Bell and Baker show lofty expectations for the pair. Reports from the Rivals Challenge in Atlanta were Baker was nearly impossible to cover. Take a look at baker below.

Jones-Bell is tabbed to be the next great Alabama football wide receiver. The third Tide wide receiver commit is 4-Star, Traeshon Holden. Holden is a big receiver believed to have plenty of upside at the college level.

Before the Worsham de-commit, the Crimson Tide staff was chasing several top targets. Perhaps the three most likely to land with the Crimson Tide are 4-Star Arian Smith, 4-Star E.J. Williams and current LSU commit, 4-Star Kayshon Boutte. Boutte is rated as the No. 7 WR and the No. 41 player overall.

So, Alabama football fans, the de-commit of Worsham is not a big deal. There are many strong indications the Crimson Tide 2020 wide receiver roster will be more than solid.
