Tennessee vs. Auburn in Jordan-Hare Stadium

Readers may wonder why Bama Hammer is listing this as a key game. Based on the performance of the two teams, the outcome means little to anyone not a follower of the two schools. Alabama football fans enjoy seeing both old rivals lose but Auburn winning will help the Alabama football future strength of record more than a Tennessee win.

As far as the game – one team may be a better garbage team than the other garbage team, but at the end of the day, it’s still SEC garbage.

In all seriousness, Auburn is coming off a road loss to Mississippi State and it was an ugly loss. With an offense that could not get to the end zone and a defense that allowed almost 350 rushing yards, Auburn had its worst game yet. Now, some in the Auburn faithful are starting to have buyer’s remorse in that they may have paid too steep a price for coach Gus Malzahn.

Meanwhile, Tennessee continues to find more ways to lose than you can imagine. Having successfully dodged a bullet with the fearsome Bye Week University last week, they now have to travel to Auburn to face an angry Tiger team. The only thing the Vols have going for them is that the new coach, former Alabama assistant Jeremy Pruitt, is really wanting the change the culture at Tennessee. That won’t come easy and it definitely doesn’t seem like it could come this season.

Look for Auburn to make up for last week and pound Tennessee into the ground.
