Alabama football’s report card vs. Tennessee

Bryce Young: A

Bryce Young had a Heisman moment in this game. It won’t count because it is against Tennessee, but his play was superb. Given the stress he saw from the defensive front, he did a great job of making plays and avoiding disaster.

This was Young’s best game as a runner. He wanted desperately to throw the ball, but there were multiple times that he had to eventually run. Still, he had nearly 400 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for two more touchdowns.

Young did a great job of manipulating the pocket. A couple of passes got away from him, but he would have had 400 passing yards if there were no drops. All things considered, Alabama football had a great performance from their star quarterback.

Kicker: B+

Will Reichard missed another field goal, but it was well over 50 yards. He almost had enough leg for it, but it was a bit too far for him in this game. Still, he made another long field goal and nailed every extra point once again.

Reichard is one of the best kickers in Alabama football history. It feels wrong to take away an A because he missed such a deep field goal attempt, but that is the standard he has set.

Punter: P

At first glance, you would expect this to be a failing grade because of the blocked punt. However, Latu missed a routine block that would have protected the punter. He handled the snap and had a normal amount of time before getting the kick off, but Latu simply whiffed on the block. On his other two punts, he averaged 42 yards.

The game was not perfect, but Alabama still won by four touchdowns. Despite the slow start, things looked nice for the Crimson Tide.
