Alabama Football: Power Rankings 2023 SEC Divisions
By Ronald Evans
Alabama Football vs. Georgia in Atlanta
The December SEC Championship contest in Atlanta has at least a tinge of inevitability to it. The Georgia Bulldogs are a near lock to be in Atlanta again in December. The odds are longer for the Alabama Crimson Tide to return, but only because Alabama has such a tough regular season schedule.
The Crimson Tide will be battle-tested by December. Georgia will not have faced an equal challenge of demanding regular season games and will not be as ‘big game’ battle tested.
Georgia has been such a recruiting juggernaut under Kirby Smart, it is widely believed to have more top players in 2023 than the Crimson Tide. Closer to reality is an opinion the Alabama football roster, in its top 40 players is as good or better than the Georgia roster.
If comparable talent is a fact, the game will follow a longstanding norm. The team with the best coaching and the best luck will win. Luck from weird bounces to injuries, to bad officiating calls, cannot be predicted. That leaves coaching as the most important variable. Alabama has Nick Saban and he is the best head coach.
My too-early and too-biased 2023 SEC Football prediction is a 13-0 Crimson Tide wins another SEC Championship. The Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs move on to the CFB Playoff.
